Intersectoral Community Action for Health
In 2001 a
cross sectoral approach to addressing health inequalities was adopted by
the then South Auckland Health, just prior to the establishment of the
District Health Boards. An emphasis on working intersectorally was as a
result on an
increasing recognition that key determinants of health largely lie
outside the health sector and therefore require intersectoral planning
and action to address them.
1: Dahlgren and Whitehead (1991) the broader determinants of health
provided Counties Manukau Health with the rationale and impetus to work
in collaboration with other sectors/agencies to improve health outcomes.
intersectoral projects undertaken by CM Health target high need
populations and aim to address key determinants of health such as
housing, education and welfare.
