Congratulations now you are pregnant, you can find a midwife in your area. Maternity services are free in New Zealand for all New Zealand residents and other eligible women.
When you are pregnant choose a Lead Maternity Carer (LMC) to provide and co-ordinate the majority of your maternity care. Your LMC will work with staff in hospital and specialists services if you need any extra care for complications you may experience.

Obstetrics & Gynaecology
If you have an emergency, see your doctor first if possible. If necessary, they can arrange for you to be seen at Middlemore Hospital. There is a 24-hour, 7-days-a-week emergency gynaecology service at Middlemore Hospital.
BreastScreen Aotearoa (BSA) is a national breast screening programme that checks women for early breast cancer. This programme includes two yearly screening mammograms to eligible women aged 45-69 years. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in New Zealand and affects nearly one in every ten women. Early detection and treatment has the best chance of success.
Maternity Care Review
In response to concerns raised in the 5th Annual Perinatal and Maternal Mortality Review Committee Report, CM Health requested a review of maternity care delivery within the Counties Manukau district.
The issues the Panel was asked to address included consideration of current models of antenatal care, investigation of the causes of outcome disparities, review of clinical governance processes and funding models, and identification of potential changes that could improve current systems.
