Maternity Quality and Safety Programme (MQSP)

For several years, CM Health has had an increased focus on improving the quality of maternity care provided to women living in the district.

Counties Manukau Health is pleased to provide the fourth report to the Ministry of Health for the Maternity Quality and Safety Programme for the 2015/16 financial year.

This report cover initiatives undertaken in the past 12 months as part of continuing to implement the Maternity Quality and Safety Programme (MQSP), which was extended mid-year by the Ministry of Health (MoH) for a further three years.

It also provides information requested by the National Maternity Monitoring Group. In the first two years the MQSP Report focused on the activity identified in the Maternity Quality and Safety Plan. Last year and again this year we have endeavored to take a broader view and summarise quality improvement activity underway across our maternity system. The Perinatal and Maternal Mortality Review Committee recommendations and actions taken will also be included from next year.

In addition we have retained the user friendly design of the report in the hope that the information is more engaging, accessible and relevant to key stakeholders such as employed and self-employed midwives, general practitioners (GPs), women and whaanau who live and/or birth in our district.
