Problem Statement

CM Health does not have the diversity in its workforce to reflect the population it serves.

What are we trying to achieve?

We are trying to increase the Pacific workforce in CM Health so that it reflects the population of the community it serves. Currently Pacific make up about 21 percent of the population but our workforce is about 11 percent.  Our vision is that CM Health delivers the best health and disability support services for Pacific people.

Aim: 1) Encourage Pacific children to take up science as well as numeracy and literacy in secondary school

2) Improve their attainment levels

3) Improve the number of health science students going to tertiary institutions to do

4) health or science related courses

5) Increase the number of Health Science Academies in the region.

What have we done?

Six Pacific Health Science Academies have been established in secondary schools since 2011.

What did we find?

By investing in a number of schools that are able to support their students with extra tutorials, schools that showed strong leadership through their principals and their teachers dedicated to work with their students and their families, the programme has been able to make this improvement compared with other Pacific students who are not in the academies.

How did we make a difference?

We are planning to continue working with our current HSAs and also look to expand to more schools in the region. We are also planning to strengthen our tertiary institution linkages and also employment linkages.
