Over 2018/2019, CM Health has continued to work towards its Healthy Together 2020 strategic goal of achieving healthy equity for all. Since Healthy Together was published in 2015, our growing and changing population has contributed to a marked increase in demand for health services, which has created a substantial financial challenge for Counties Manukau Health.

To continue to progress Healthy Together within this context, we have had to make choices that achieve our goals, but at a lower cost base and with prioritisation of resources.

In 2018/2019, we responded to this challenge through a smaller number of measurable and specific actions aimed at shifting stubborn inequities, including child health, primary care access and mental health. We made more use of regional service delivery and long-term investment planning collaborations, and further increased our focus on social wellbeing particularly for children and young people in our district.

Over 2018/2019, we also identified regionally prioritised major capital investments that will add critical service capacity, and remediate health and safety and clinical service risks, by addressing aging facilities infrastructure. We are looking forward to advancing these approved remediation investments, such as recladding the Middlemore Hospital Scott building, and are proud of the new acute mental health building development, Tiaho Mai. This innovative facility design provides flexible spaces that can adapt to different client needs, and provides a much improved recovery experience.
