Counties Manukau has been named a global Climate Champion by Health Care Without Harm, receiving the Silver award for Climate Leadership in recognition for our efforts to assess climate change risks and reduce carbon emissions.
Knitting a community together
The Middlemore Foundation Wool Programme has been going for 23 years, with over 2,000 dedicated knitters nationwide lending their knitting skills to the Counties Manukau community. Knitters donate beautifully knitted booties, hats, mittens, vests and blankets to keep premature babies and newborns in the hospital and the community warm.
The double whammy of delerium and dementia
A team at Counties Manukau is taking new initiatives to boost staff awareness about a growing problem in the care of elderly patients. The issue is the twin problems of delirium and dementia in the elderly – a situation which leads to negative clinical outcomes, especially on discharge.

New Taonga for Bereavement Care
A new taonga, or carving has taken up pride of place in Counties Manukau’s Department of Bereavement Care. The carving is a kaitiaki or guardian called Te Miro which means The Thread.
