From Friday, 3 December New Zealand moves into the ‘traffic light’ system. See our updated visitor guidance here

If you have any of the following symptoms, please get a test:

  • New or worsening cough
  • Fever
  • Sore throat
  • Temporary loss of smell
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Runny nose

You might also be asked to get a test for other reasons.

It is FREE to get a COVID-19 test. You will get sent a text message only if your test result is negative. If your test result is positive, Public Health will call you with advice on what to do next.

Call your family doctor (GP) first to get a COVID-19 test. It is completely FREE if you say you’re just needing a test. If your family doctor is busy, they will recommend another testing facility that you can go to.

You can also call Healthline for advice on 0800 358 5453. This is a FREE, 24/7 service with interpreters available.

Community testing for COVID-19 is not available at Hospital Emergency Departments.
