Big Latch On whaanau event on Friday, 14 April

After a couple of years’ hiatus due to COVID-19, the Te Rito Ora team are excited to be hosting an in-person event for The Big Latch On 2023.

Traditionally The Big Latch On has been about counting the number of babies latched onto breasts, but this year it’s much more inclusive: we are welcoming all whaanau who are pregnant or who have children, and it doesn’t matter how the babies are fed. This year it’s all just about whaanau and communities coming together.

There will be free lactation consultations available and infant nutrition advice for under twos.

Bring a picnic and come to enjoy the atmosphere.

“It’s shaping up to be a really cool event,” says Aleshia Dearlove fromTe Rito Ora Breastfeeding and Nutrition Service.

“The Big Latch On is an international annual event. This is the first in person event since the lockdowns, so we want to make it a special one.

“We want to give the community easy access to infant feeding advice, koorero, and even just meeting up with other Mum’s which we don’t do enough of post COVID”

There will be a live in person prizes draw for tickets to Butterfy Creek, Northern Stars Netball, Gravity Manukau, RewaHard apparel and more.

This Friday, 14 April, everyone is welcome to join us at the Auckland Botanical Gardens from 11am – 1pm. Meet at the glade at the gardens and look out for purple Te Rito Ora shirts and flags.
