Congratulations to Lawrence Kingi, Diabetic Podiatrist, who was awarded the Leadership Award at the National Podiatry Conference held 19-20 June 2021. This award recognises an individual who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in clinical professional practice. Lawrence is involved with the ‘Feet for Life’ project which helps to improve outcomes for renal patients and he is also known for his passion for developing Tikanga based podiatry.
“Tikanga is a lifestyle - it’s how we live, protocols passed down by our Tupuna to engage with the past and the future. One particular protocol I have for each patient is to kaupare their individual space integrity with whanaungatanga and encouragement. They will eventually accept their own hauora responsibility." says Lawrence.
Caran Barratt-Boyes, Diabetes Community Co-ordinator, reflects on her colleague winning the award, “He helps to develop and encourage his colleagues to deliver best practice patient outcomes and is a huge asset to his profession and the organisation."
