We are so proud to announce that CM Health has won the Toitū Brighter Future Award in the category of ‘Climate Action (large organisation).’
The Toitū Brighter Future Awards acknowledge their certified organisations that are leading the way in environmental sustainability.
The criteria for the awards are around demonstrable impact, and the winners have been scientifically proven to be making a positive difference to the world around them.
Toitū’s website states that CM Health has reduced 42% of our operational emissions since achieving certification in 2012.
“CM Health was the first DHB in Australasia to start measuring and reducing its carbon emissions and it is wonderful to be acknowledged for this,” says Helen Polley, CM Health's Sustainability Manager.
“We have many staff who are passionate about environmental matters and go above and beyond their role description to reduce emissions in their areas of work. We would not achieve what we have done without everyone playing their part.”
Helen also thanks Toitu along with EnergyPro Solutions who she says have been instrumental in assisting us with this work.
CM Health sustainability work has mainly been around areas such as energy efficiency, waste minimisation, and raising awareness of environmental issues.
We are currently embarking on a regional climate change risk assessment, transitioning our vehicle fleet from fossil fuel to electric and we hope to do further work on waste minimisation and circular economy projects.
Any new buildings are designed with environmental sustainability in mind and we aim to provide resilient, comfortable, and enjoyable buildings for both staff and members of the public.
With population growth and atmospheric warming continuing, we look forward to undertaking the mahi needed to keep achieving our sustainability goals.
