On Friday 8 October Counties Manukau Health CEO Margie Apa hosted an online event for our Asian Community VAX Heroes programme community leaders, clinicians and volunteers to thank them for their contribution to Counties Manukau Health’s ongoing Flu and COVID-19 Vaccination programmes.
The relationship with Asian communities that’s been developed through the VAX Heroes programmes has helped CM Health share information on COVID-19 vaccines and increase the uptake among Asian communities. Clinicians and volunteers from diverse Asian communities came together to help to create COVID-19 vaccination promotional videos in many Asian languages, social media posts, group bookings, language support and transportation.
The Community VAX Heroes programme is vital to the continued health and wellbeing of our Asian communities, and is just one tool we use to help to build the resilience of our people.
CEO Margie Apa expressed her gratitude for the enormous support that has been given to Counties Manukau Health by the community. She commented, “both the attendance on the day and the feedback we received for this event were positive and affirming. It was gratifying to see so many faces online so that we could express our thanks to them for their ongoing support”.
Attendee Jenny Wang, QSM from Chinese New Settlers Services Trust Foundation congratulated Margie and thanked CM Health for providing leadership “on such wonderful projects for the wellbeing of our communities”. Chao Yu, JP from Aotea Sport and Recreation Association Inc. expressed the hope “that we can continue to bring all organisations and individuals together to get the COVID-19 Vax rate as high as we can”. Steven Huang from United Chinese Associations of New Zealand Inc thanked CM Health for paying such special attention to the elderly people in their communities and providing valuable assistance in breaking down language barriers and helping with transport challenges.
