Counties Manukau Medical Educator wins Top award at just 29

One of Aotearoa’s most prolific young medical educators has taken out the top award at the Confederation of Postgraduate Medical Educational Councils in Adelaide.

As Clinical Educator of the Year, Dr Joshua Manukonga is the first Kiwi doctor in five years to take the prize, which recognises the winner’s contribution to education and the training of junior doctors.

“I been in a training role for more than a decade now,” says Joshua. “I entered the role of a medical educator when I was just a medical student. I just seemed to take to it.”

In recent years as well as working at Middlemore, Joshua has been employed part time as a Rural Hospital GP, and he’s been undertaking a Masters in Clinical Education.

Joshua’s colleagues have described his achievements as awesome.
