When it comes to walking the talk, Dr Pete Watson, Interim District Director for Counties Manukau, can hit the ground running, donning his scrubs and putting himself to work in our Emergency Department this week.
Of course, qualified to do so, Pete Watson, started his clinical career as a Paediatrician, while also having roles here at Counties Manukau as the Chief Medical Officer, Acting CEO, and also Clinical Director of Mental Health at Counties Manukau Health.
Under Te Whatu Ora, Health New Zealand, he is now responsible for the National Medical Leadership as a member of the Executive Team of the new health entity.
“It is really important for me personally to show my support for staff, especially during the busy winter season. It’s good to see what our team are doing and get refreshed about what our people do and see every day,” says Pete.

During his days in ED, Pete has spent time in the PAEDS and Adult EDs from the front door, through triage into assessment and treatment areas.
“I have been blown away by the incredible mahi of our staff. We have awesome people across all areas working so hard, and again I want to recognise your skills and dedication and sincerely thank everyone. “
