Kete Hauora (Wellness Programme Directory now available to health professionals and social service organisations

Latest News 25 February 2019 | Kete Hauora, a comprehensive directory of wellness programmes available in the Counties Manukau district, launched last week during a Mini Expo with mental health service providers and primary care, held at the Manukau SuperClinic. The event was open to members of the Manukau Locality Nurses network and the Manukau Community Health team.

The directory lists wellness programmes, which can be delivered in community settings, at no or very low cost, at times to suit whaanau and individuals with full time work commitments.

Kete Hauora was produced by a group of University of Auckland Bachelor of Health Science students as an outcome of their community placement in Counties Manukau Health (CM Health). “It is a one-stop shop for updates on mental health services available in the Counties Manukau region,” says CM Health Primary Care project manager Kaye Dennison.

Troy Manley, service manager at Emerge Aotearoa, believes “the directory will benefit tangata whaiora, the people we serve”. Troy is the service manager for Whariki, Emerge Aotearoa’s community-based service managed by people with lived experience of mental illness. The service provides mental health advocacy, peer support, life skills and education programmes to people in the local community and their whaanau.

Edith Moore, network coordinator at Drive Consumer Direction, a network that links people who experience mental health and addiction challenges to services and resources, believes that the directory will make it easier for people to know the services that are available and how to access these.

For Nina Faitalia, support worker at Penina Health Trust, it is important to have all the services working hand in hand. “It is about the recovery of our people and how we can together better support their care.” Penina Health Trust supports Pasifika people in Counties Manukau on their journey to recovery applying the Pacific model of care.

The directory will be updated every six months and will also undergo evaluation.
