Roger Grech, Senior Podiatrist at CM Health, was recently awarded the Life Member to Podiatry NZ Award and was also a finalist for the Leadership Award at the National Podiatry Conference 2021.
The National Podiatry 2021 conference awards recognise outstanding achievements and contributions to podiatry in New Zealand (and we were lucky enough to have two of our staff members recognised, with Lawrence Kingi, Diabetic Podiatrist, also receiving an award).
Winning the Podiatry NZ awards was a humbling experience as there are many others in my profession that were also worthy recipients and equally deserving of being recognised,” says Roger.
"I have always enjoyed mentoring and encouraging young podiatrists to be the best they can be and to be proud of the work they do. It has been very satisfying to see them grow and mature with the ultimate goal of helping people with their foot problems.”
Roger grew up in a small Taranaki town and little did he know a suggestion from his vocational guidance officer would lead him to a successful podiatry career spanning over 30 years, with most of it being here at CM Health.
"I didn’t even know what podiatry was back then,” Roger exclaims.
He explains that what he enjoys about working here at CM Health is the sense of fulfilment he has in being part of a multidisciplinary team working in a challenging demographic.
"Each member of the team offers a different skill set crucial to providing an essential service to the South Auckland community. I believe that a team approach can collectively make a difference to the public health burden of diabetic foot complications and we should always strive to achieve improved health outcomes.
Congratulations to Roger and Lawrence. It is wonderful to see our staff being recognised for their contributions.
