Scott building reclad marks milestone

Latest News 11 November 2019 | The recladding of the Scott Building at Middlemore Hospital has marked a major milestone with the unveiling of new panels at the completion of Stage One of the project.

Work on the building, which houses a significant number of medical beds and provides medical, surgical, dialysis and oral health wards, started in March and was carried out while the hospital continued to operate.

CM Health Acting CEO Sanjoy Nand spoke at the blessing ceremony and says the milestone was significant and acknowledges the commitment of staff, patients and contractors to get on and complete the first stage.

“This celebration is recognition of all those who have been involved right from the early days three or four years ago, including design, project and contractors to ensure the success of this scale which to our knowledge, has never been done anywhere in the world,” says Mr Nand.

“I want to say a big thank you to patients and whaanau, our nursing staff as well all those who worked through the reclad, for their patience and understanding while this work was underway.  It will not have been easy but their continued support was crucial to getting us to this stage.”

Work included the installation of temporary walls to minimise the disruption to patients and provide a safe environment for care.

Stage two of the seven-stage project is due for completion in a few weeks.
