Women’s Health and Newborn Annual Report

This report describes practices, projects and achievements that reflect CM Health’s commitment to equitable and quality care for the women and whaanau we serve. It also covers the recommendations of the National Maternity Monitoring Group and the Perinatal and Maternal Mortality Review Committee.

We are proud of our people who work in maternity services: hospital, community and lead maternity carer (LMC) based. We are proud of the work they do supporting the health of women living in the Counties Manukau district and their whaanau. Our teams work under challenging conditions – ageing facilities, workforce shortages and the increasing clinical complexity that arises from obesity and the many socioeconomic determinants that impact on our community.

2017 Position statement: Reducing harms from alcohol in our communities (PDF, 727 KB)
Counties Manukau Health has published a position statement; Reducing harms from alcohol in our communities. A position statement is a brief, evidence-based, high level statement about a particular issue. Alcohol-related harm is recognised as an important and increasing health issue with widespread impacts across health, social, and economic sectors. Harms burden not only the individual consuming alcohol, but also their whaanau and the community. This statement provides a strong base for CM Health’s alcohol harm minimisation work by clearly stating the evidence-based policies and actions CM Health supports. It aligns with our obligation to improve, protect and promote the health and wellbeing of the population we serve.

Health Literacy

2016 Building understanding: advance on being a health literate system.  Prepared by Dr Siniva Sinclair, Clinical Lead Health Literacy. (PDF, 1.1 MB)
This document provides a refreshed vision and framing of health literacy, pulling together the related strands of cultural competency and language access and linking these to the goal of health equity and CM Health's values.  It provides a basis for aligning a range of related activities, as well as extending new targeted interventions, across CM Health.  Drawing on work that has been carried out in the organisation over the past few years, it provides a platform for progressing selected elements.  An implementation plan outlining actions and responsibilities going forward is under development and will form a companion document to the current piece.
