Omicron is now in the community in various locations across Aotearoa and we expect the number of cases to rapidly increase in the next two to three weeks.
Hospital and homes need to be prepared for Omicron
In a very short space of time Omicron has become the dominant COVID-19 variant in many countries and community cases are now in New Zealand, and it will rapidly spread in our community.

Our focus on preparation for the omicron variant of COVID-19 continues. The outbreak of omicron in our community will place demand on our hospital system as we know it will rapidly infect many people. It’s pleasing to see the commencement of the paediatric COVID-19 vaccination this week.
An Officer … and a Gentleman!
We are very proud to have our own Dr Lindsay Mildenhall, Neonatologist, recognised in the New Year Honours 2022 and also appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to neonatal intensive care and resuscitation training.

As we head into the peak of our summer the number of people infected by the Delta variant of COVID-19 has declined dramatically with only one active case in Middlemore Hospital at the start of this week.
Visitors parking - rate increase
ACC will be increasing parking rates for visitors at Middlemore Hospital. The new rates will start on 19 January 2022. These increases take place every three years. Please also note that the cost of compassionate parking will increase at the same time from $50. 00 per week to $60. 00 per week.
