To help respond to a large surge in winter illnesses, which has seen record numbers of presentations at Middlemore Hospital’s Emergency Department, people in Counties Manukau needing healthcare this weekend and over the Matariki long weekend will have access to free appointments at participating General Practices.

Middlemore is busy and we are under pressure. Winter has arrived and we are seeing an increase in flu and respiratory illnesses in our community. Our Hospital is extremely busy, and our own workforce illnesses and vacancies remain a challenge.

Middlemore has now had 185 COVID-19 positive presentations to our Emergency Department since March of last year, and in the Counties Manukau region there have been over 1900 cases. That’s 35% of all cases in New Zealand, excluding all cases in Managed Isolation and Quarantine facilities.
